Stone Cross in Leiasund is Kvitsøy most famous past memory. It has a height above ground of 3.9 meters.
The Cross is easily visible from the fairway, and has therefore always been a familiar sea and sailing brand. No one knows for sure when the cross was set up, but it must be at least 1000 years old. It is purified by salt water and wind. English missionaries may already have erected the cross in the 900′s. Since then it´s been a landmark for sailors, from the Viking Age to the present. Snorre Sturlason tells that Erling Skjalgsson and Olav Haraldsson had a settlement at this cross in 1016.

Utrolig at korset har blitt stående i vind og vær der ute i havgapet……, men du for en flott øy!
Det er nydelig! Og så mye kreps og hummer. Og sau. Et rent paradis!
Matmor sier at mange fine folk var ved foten av korset i sin tid, så det er bare på sin plass at det hele krones med en Zhivago som poserer

Det er sant. Konger og alt som skrev forlig og drakk seg full. Men det var i gamle dager det. Nå er det bare hallelulja på hele øyen.
